About PMA Music

The Production Music Association ("PMA") brings together publishers and composers of production music to promote and protect the interests and rights of our community.

The PMA will strive to fulfill this mission in part through:

  1. Working with performing rights organizations, legislators, legal counsel and broadcasters in the aim of improving the reporting, monitoring, collection and distribution of performance fees and royalties for PMA members;
  2. Providing its members with a forum in which issues of common concern and interest can be discussed and decisions made;
  3. Educating its members and the marketplace about music rights and other issues affecting the production music community; and
  4. Enhancing the value of PMA members' music through research, education and public relations
The PMA is a non-profit, volunteer organization currently comprising 180 member companies, including major-label publishers and national independents, and is providing crucial leadership to protect the value of our work and create an even better future for our community.

In 1997, composers and publishers came together in successful opposition to a specific issue (a proposed cap on performance royalties) and later formed the PMA. Since then, some of our accomplishments have included ensuring that millions of dollars performance royalties found their way to the properly-entitled writers and publishers; persuading our community, broadcasters and the PRO’s about the dangers of direct licensing; influencing the technological developments affecting the tracking, reporting and payment of our members’ music; and generally growing the organization into a forceful voice heard across all areas of our industry. Today, we’re moving forward on everything from performing rights analysis to composer education, from lobbying on digital watermarking and fingerprinting, to helping guarantee the value of production music across the ever-expanding universe of media and will continue to provide of all our members the education, support and advocacy our community deserves.
